Lighting rain on fire

Postby Psedeuname » Sat Mar 10, 2012 8:07 am

It has come to my attention that "Adele" apparently thinks you can light rain on fire, I am here to say that's not what you call it, it's called evaporation. Not, you could light the rain on fire if it was gasoline, also after the rain hits the ground and collects, you could light that on fire with some effort. However, lighting rain that is still in the air on fire is impossible. That is the end of my statement, and I hope that I have educated this "Adele" character against attempting to light rain on fire. Thank you for your time, and have a pleasant day or evening.

hmm, I think you took it too literally. "Set fire to the rain" is more like a metaphor.
She come up with this phrase after she finally managed to light her cigarette in the rain.

I hope you have not joined this forum just to present Adele's adoring fans with scientific facts! We are not uneducated nitwits who seriously think you can set fire to the rain and our goddess is not an idiot either. She is well aware you cannot set fire to the rain and as my good friend Alina pointed out, it is a metaphor. Please do not come on this fan forum to refer to our goddess in "". She is not "this adele" on this forum!
My only hope is that you were being fecicious and if so, please inform us and we may think it's funny, but for now, at least I, do not think it's funny.

Not to get all technical, but if you set a glass of water on the table you get evaporation. If you set fire to the rain you get boiling - steam.

And - from what I've noticed - every time she sets fire to the rain it gets steamy in here. Back me up GFA's.

Therefore- no scientific faux pas in this song, just beautiful thermodynamic metaphor.
