CHAPTER 6- THE INSPIRATIONS
Hometown Glory: This was the first song Adele wrote at the very fragile age of 16. Adele wrote this song in order to express her love about London and cherishing her memories. She wrote the song after a fight with her mom about going to college to Liverpool (She never went to college, because she got signed right after highschool). The lyrics “I like it in the city when two worlds collide/You get the people and the government/Everybody taking different sides.” are inspired by a march she went to against the Iraq. She describes it as the most meaninful and special song on her album.
Chasing Pavements: Adele wrote this song after a big fight with her boyfriend at the pub Duke of Wellington. She punched him and left the pub start running away from everyone, allthough noone was chasing her ...and she realised she was "chasing the pavement" ..she took this phrase and wrote the song..
Daydreamer: Adele has said "Daydreamer is about this boy I was in love with, like proper in love with. He was bi and I couldn’t deal with that. All the things I wanted from my boyfriend, he was never going to be. I get really jealous anyway, so I couldn’t fight with girls and boys". The lovelorn 'Daydreamer', though, is about a different boy, a bisexual friend she'd fallen in love with and who said the same was happening to him, at her 18th birthday party, only to run off four hours later with one of Adele's gay friends.'Great!' she hollers, cockernee indignation ricocheting throughout the cab. 'I was, "We're not even going out yet and you've cheated on me already!" So "Daydreamer" is about everything I wanted him to be. The daydream of him.'
Melt My Heart To Stone:Adele calls “Melt My Heart to Stone” her favorite song on the album. “I just love singing it. When I wrote it, I was crying,” she explains. “The song is about breaking up a relationship.”and "it's quite a sad song, it's about giving everything for someone, which is what love is all about."
My Same: Adele wrote this song about her best friend Laura. This is about their relationship and the fact that even though they are so different everything works just perfect between them and they can't go a day without seeing each other. She wrote it as a "Thank you for letting me back into your life"
Cold Shoulder: Written with Mark Ronson, about the pain of being cheated on, and 'wishing you were the other girl'
Crazy For You: "is probably the only really nice song" on 19. She added: "There's nothing bad in that song, it's just about adoring someone. I wrote it when I was meant to be putting together songs for my album, but I couldn't because I was acting like an idiot, falling to pieces. You're like a fool when you're in love, you do things you shouldn't."
Make you feel my love: A Bob Dylan cover she decided to record because... "I wrote 9 songs in a short space of time, all about this awful relationship I was in. I never quite got down what I was really feeling in those songs, though. Although I was trying to. It wasn't that I was holding back or anything, but I just couldn't get it down. I was bitterly upset and then my manager played me this Bob Dylan song 'Make You Feel My Love.' The lyrics are just amazing, and summed up exactly what I'd been trying to say in my songs. It's about regretting not being with someone, and it's beautiful...I couldn't not put it on there."
Rolling In The Deep: She wrote the first verse about a boy she disliked that she met in a club. She wrote the rest right after she broke up with her boyfriend. She says "it was my reaction after being told that my life is gonna be boring and lonely and rubbish and that i was a weak person if i didn't stay in a relationship...so yeah..i was very insulted and i wrote that as a sort of FUCK YOU!" She worked with Paul Epworth in this song and she said "So i went with Paul with it and it was exactly the kind of thing he had in mind to do with me..i suppose..i wasn't really excepring anything out of this session just because he is known for being very Indie..and i am known for being very pop so i wasn't sure if it would work too well but it ended up being a match made in heaven ..He brought a lot out of me..brought my voice out as well.. there's notes that i hit in that song that i never knew i could hit" "It's me making a bit of a statement," she told Q Magazine. "People will hear it and go, Wow, she ain't mucking around."The beating of the drum is inspired by the beating of her heart. The phrase 'Rolling In The Deep' she says washer intrepretation of the brittish slang 'roll deep' which means 'to have someone, always have someone that has your back, and you're never on your own'
Rumor has It: She has said "Some people might think it's about blogs and magazines and pappers..but it's not! It's about my own friends believing stuff that they hear..i was preety mortified really.."this, along woth RITD she wrote as a kind of fuck you. She co-wrote this song with Ryan Teder.
Turning Tables:This is the second song she wrote with Ryan Teder on this album. Adele says "I arrived and i was quite upset cause i was kind of in the middle of all the rubbish that was going around on home..and i turned up and i was just going "Who the fuck does he think he is?He always fucking turns tables on me..!"And then he took that Turning Tables..he kinda came up with the phrase which i loved"
Don't You Remember: There are two stories for this song. The first is that this song was inspired by the song "Need You Know" from Lady Antebellum like Adele said "This song was everywhere!I couldn't escape it!So this was my country answer to it" The other story is that Adele was analyzing all of her songs and looking back at the lyrics and like she said"I suddenly got really ashamed and discusted with the man that i was betraying someone who was really important to me and i felt really bad and i kinda felt really childish. She says she remebers why she loved him but she bets he doesn't remember why he loved her. "You know when you forget why you loved someone? I was just thinking about how my entire body would just shiver if my ex touched me to say hello."
Set Fire To The Rain:This song is about the contradictions in a relationship.she says "I was really heartbroken when i met who the song is about and he kind of brought me back to life and put me back together and..he was a dickhead as well so..anyway.."she has also told that the inspiration came after they had a fight in a restaurant and she went out because she wanted to smoke ...it was rainning and she was trying to light a cigarette and he came out and told her what are doing? Are you trying to set fire to the rain? That phrase inspired her. Adele has also been known to call this song her 'gay anthem' because some of her gay friends urged her to write a gay song.
He Won't Go: This song is about two friends of Adele's.She met them after the 1st record when she moved into her new house, they shared their love for dogs. Shortly after she found out that the guy was a heroin addict and that he was going back to rehab. Adele said that the bond this couple had really moved her and that she is very proud of them both and that he has been clean for over a year now.
Take It All: Adele says "I can hardly remember how Take It all came really,we played a chord and i just start singing it!It's about my devotion to someone and them not carring really and taking a piece out of me and kind of exploiting me i guess in a way..it was literally as i sang it the lyrics happened."she has also said that this song triggered the downfall of her relationship.
I'll Be Waiting: She said it best!"Soundtrack to my life!" her attempt at a happy song.written with Paul Epworth. She says "I started to realise I'm not as great as I thought as a girlfriend. I felt quite bad about writing a record that's all fuck you." she says it's about "admitting your flaws, accepting you're wrong."
One And Only:It is another happy song and like she said it's a bit of "Daydreaming" song. Adele told the sun"That one's just about someone I've known for years who I've always loved and I think he's always loved me but we're too scared to be with each other in case that's it." later on in RAFH she says "When I wrote this song, I was really an optimist. I thought the sun shone out of his ass... Not enough time has gone by since he was a fucking prick to me. So I will chat shit about him until I'm blue in the face."
Someone Like You: Adele says "When i was writing it i was feeling miserable and lonely which contradicts Rolling In The Deep where i was like "I'm gonna be fine without you" this one is on my knees really..That relationship the hole record is about is summed up in Someone Like You ..it made me who i am at the moment ..i am sure it will be other relationships that will change me and define me as well in the future..I can imagine being about 40 and looking for him again and turning up being settled and he's got a beautiful wife and kids and he is completely happy ..and i am still on my own..it's about that and i am scared of the thought of that" She refers to this as the 'best song she will ever write' and that it holds a special place in her heart. "I wrote that song on the end of my bed. I had a cold. I was waiting for my bath to run. I'd found out he'd got engaged. And it blows my mind how things cross over like that." She wrote this song with Dan Wilson, Wilson tells American Songwriter magazine: "Adele came to the session with lyrics and melody for the first half of the verse at least – there was a real vibe and idea already. She told me she wanted to write a song about her heartbreak…that was how she put it. She told me a little bit about the guy who broke up with her, and I think maybe part of my contribution was to help keep the song really simple and direct—very personal." The pair worked on the song over two days. Wilson recalled: "At the end of the second day we finished the recording, which ended up on the album. She couldn't stay late, as I remember, because she had a meeting in Malibu to play Rick and other people from her label the song. So we finished it in the late afternoon and she took it to them."

Thanks! Great job and I will be learning a lot from this for a while.

If this is from the Track by Track explanations then it should be "really", not "with you". I would change it first of all to fit Adele's words, but also to avoid certain ambiguity as to the meaning here...
