ADELE Live Chronology - working thread

Postby Georgina » Fri Sep 28, 2012 9:03 am

We have not limit on threads, so why not create a new one. ;) From now on if you want to write about the Live Chronology thread, you can do it here.

As I wrote in the video thread, I have no clear idea how to use us all at the moment. Here are some general ideas:

1. if you speak a language of one of the coutries where Adele was playing, see if you can find any info about her gigs, reviews, comments from the audience, whatever. If you do find, pick the interesting parts, translate them to English, and let me know. I can take care of Swedish, and mostly Danish and Norwegian if we ever come to the 21 tour. But in the earlier period, up till end of the 19 tour, Adele was in Holland, Germany, France and Switzerland (that I know of) and I do not speak these languages.

2. later on when start taking on bigger concerts maybe some of you would like to take on a specific concert that you know much about (maybe you were there?) and prepare this part. IF ANYONE WAS IN ONE OF THOSE EARLY CONCERTS FROM 2007 AND WANTS TO WRITE ABOUT IT, SPEAK NOW. If you don't, you do not have to forever keep you peace. ;)

3. I think I will post in advance which period/ concerts will be in the next part. If any of you have knowledge about the subject, or wants to do research and finds interesting info, let me know on Twitter (GeorginaPL).

So Part 2 will be about 2007 up till the end of September. Videos that we have are from:

- Lancaster Library
- ICA
- Great Escape
- Glastonbury
- Astoria (with Jack Penate)

If you have more from this period or have knowlege of any of these do not feel shy. ;)

YoungWerther wrote:Adele is going to love this thread. This is a fantastic document of her early career. Keep it coming, Adele historians.

But by "available," you mean available on video? What about adding gigs that were not necessarily recorded or posted online? A complete list of her solo performances should be possible, especially with the help of very early fans like diorama and @fatbury on Twitter.

Thank you. It means a lot.

Yes, it's mainly available on videos. As for the gigs that were not recorded (or if they were we do not know about it), there is something to be found, like reviews for example. I myself doubt I could get together a complete list of her performances from the early period, but if by "solo" you mean from the time she became a headliner onwards, then I think we will get the complete, or nearly complete list from the 19 era. Hopefully we don't end up listing gigs that didn't take place...

As for the 21 era, let's see if we ever come to it, but here a complete list of gigs shouldn't be a problem.

Limiting ourselves to the gigs we have videos from is a way of setting boudaries. I also thought it's more interesting than putting up just plain text. But I will try to give some context or to mention other gigs when opportunity arises (like I did with the Luminarie gig), or in the very least just list them. I will try to do it more, I actually cut out some parts I wrote for part 1.

If you can get diorama (are you there???) or fatbury to participate, please do so. If nothing else, they could comment and share they knowledge in the main thread. It would be great. And it applies to others too. Or they can take on and write some parts. It's not like I have to be the only one writing the main texts.

There are two or three gig lists from the start in 2006. Some gigs (but not many) are missing so try and piece them together to try to complete the full list.
Here's one you can use:
http://www.songkick.com/artists/537914- ... hy?page=17

Can I suggest that for each gig as well as a write up for it. You show a photograph from that gig instead or as well as the video(if available).
For exanple: The photo from this link taken at the Luminaire, London. Not a bad read either.

I will help you if needed but It may be best for all the other members to get stuck in.
You never know they might find something they never knew about Adele.

Hope it's a success.

It's a good thing to leave this thread for notes etc and the main one for the facts. A bit like a book on a thread.

I've gone through this list, and one or two other lists as well. They are very helpful, but still leave questions. It would be great to have people talking different languages who can search for reviews. They are the best way to assure that a gig took place, and they usually also say something about it. ;)

Yes, good idea. I will have it in mind.

If you can direct to anything covering the earlierst period, 2006-2007, that would help. The most difficult is the early period when she was still mainly a support act. It would be great to get a full complete list from this period. The later we come the easier it becomes to find material .

Thanks. So do I. But it will be a lot of work.

I'm using Alina very directly. She makes the YT lists and we are communicating.

The thread is set up (http://www.adele.tv/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22750&p=81409#p81409), you are invited. :) I will post there something tomorrow, working on it now.

shadesofblack wrote:Just my two cents. Good luck on this. :)

Thank you! But you want to get away with just two cents? I would like more... How about that you start working on preparing text about Roxy at your leasure? I could give you links to two reviews from the concert, but I guess you've read all the reviews as they were coming.

So, do we have a Roxy deal? :)

You have this review from the night? http://laist.com/2008/05/25/adele_at_the_ro_1.php
He bitches a little too much about the Roxy, but the guy sees a lot of shows and has earned the right to be cranky at the venue.
As for me, I would have stood in that wind for hours more than we did waiting to get in. No problem.
I can add a lot more to it. I will get back to you.

Great!

I like the guy's bitching considering that it inspired the Roxy's owner to write an answer. Have you read it?

And yes, all the shows you've been to are yours! And if you want to cover any other show, just let me know. There were plenty of them.

Same with all the rest of you guys! If there is a show you've been to, or you know about, or you like, or you want to learn more about and to write about, just let me know and I will put you on the list. :) At the moment it would be best if this is a show from 2008, or even from 2007, as we will be covering some of them in just few weeks.

I've been thinking, and digging, and reading through all your posts on the subject again.

I think I will try to incorporate suggestions to include as many gigs as possible, or all that I - or you - know about. To get it as accurate as possible I will post here, usually in advance, gigs that I - and hopefully some of you - will be working on. For 2006 it's not anymore possible, so I will post something about it now. Later on I will try to edit the 2006 post in the main thread to add some info.

Regarding 2006:

Bobital, France. Le festival des Terre-Neuves
Some places list a gig that took place on 2006-07-07 in Bobital, France, as part of Le festival des Terre-Neuves. It was a 3 days festival which started on 7th (Friday), ended on 9th (Sunday). Amongst the second days performers were Bonnie Tylor, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. Adele is on the list of performes on http://www.last.fm (http://www.last.fm/festival/776763+Festival+des+Terre+Neuvas/lineup#all). Some sources say she was singing on Saturday, other that she was singing on Sunday. The most precise source I've found lists her as the one before the last on Sunday, performing between 00.50 and 1.25.

Any French speakers who would like to do some research? Personally I have my doubts that she was there. My suspicion is that it was another Adele, or rather Adéle, a French performer with the same name. I came across some traces of her months ago, and now I even found her myspace page. According to last.fm it was the "our" Adele's gig, but it doesn't mean much considering that they are ascribing to her a concert from 1964 in Bhutan, and they already "know" that she will perform during a festival in January in Brasil (which to me seems highly improbable). Seems that they list all the performes with name "Adele" under Adele Laurie Blue Adkins.

Anyone from France would like to and could check if during the Bobital festival of 2006it was "our" Adele? Mabye somebody was there?

2007:

Here is my list of gigs that I will be looking at in the nearest future. Entries with *** in front are those which are listed someplace, but which I'm doubtful about, mainly becasue these are gigs outside of UK which I have no independent confirmation about. Considering that this is a period when Adele was just beginning in UK and trying to establish herself in her home country, I have my doubts.

*** 2007-01-12 – Paris, La Flèche d'Or. Supporting Jack Penate (according to http://www.last.fm)
2007-01-31 - The Music Library, Lancaster, UK. Mr Hudson & The Library. Op. Adele. TAKEN!!! [Georgina]
*** 2007-02-08 – Genoa, Burrida. Adele & Karmatest supporting Isobel (according to http://www.last.fm)

2007-03-14 till 17 – Austin, Texas TAKEN!!! [Georgina]
2007-04-16 - Night & Day Café, Manchester, UK. Main: Jack Penate. Op. Late of the Pier & Adele
2007-04-18 – London, ICA (The Institute of Contemporary Arts). Opening for Jack Penate. One (crappy) video.
2007-04-19 – London, UK. Camden Crawl 2007 Festival (19-20 April, Adele sung on the first day)
2007-04-21 – Cardiff, Cardiff Barfly. Supporting Jack Penate with Late of the Pier.
2007-04-22 – Oxford, Zodiac. Supporting Jack Penate. The last gig of the tour.
2007-05-17 - Brighton, UK, The Great Escape festival TAKEN!!! [chasingpavements1921]
2007-06-09 – London, The Social. Supporting Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip with Tom Allalone.
2007-06-24 - Pilton, UK, Glastonbury Festival TAKEN!!! [chasingpavements1921]
2007-06-26 - HMV Institute, Digbeth, UK. Main: Jack Penate. Op. Adele & Wild Beasts.
2007-06-27 – London, Scala. Adele and Lethal Bizzle supporting Jack Penate
2007-06-28 - Manchester Academy 3, Manchester, UK (op. Jack Penate & Wild Beasts. Is it true? Wouldn’t she be an opening act for Jack Penate?)
*** 2007-07-15 – Amsterdam, Paradiso. Adele supporting Jack Penate (acc to fast.fm)
2007-09-26 – sings My Yvonne with Jack Penate at Astoria, London.

IF ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO TAKE CARE OF RESEARCH ABOUT ONE OR MORE OF THESE GIGS, LET ME KNOW. Especially those of you who wanted to help (Sympathyofthedoubt, Ilia, chasingpavements1921, Just_wandering, Alexe), but all are invited.

In the beginning my idea was to present videos that are available, and to write a few words about each of these gigs. But in your comments there are wishes for a full list of Adele's gigs. I hope that you see from the above that it's now always that simple, at least when it come to the very beginnings, but let's see what we can do.

In any case, the idea was to present Adele's life performances going after the available videos. I wanted to chose a period, and each week, or so, present the available videos with whatever I manage to find and write about them. This has shifted now, and with the new goal in mind I might just go about it the other way around: I will try to present each week some concerts (videos or no videos), as many as I manage to prepare.

And once again, HELP!!! And so on... ;)

There's certainly a lot of work here to be done, but I think we can do it. I do not speak any language fluently besides English (I only know a small amount of Spanish from school), so I don't think I could really be of much help regarding the unknown gigs in France. However, I could definitely help in finding info about and videos for any of the the gigs in the UK and US. I think I'll first start working on Glastonbury and The Great Escape from 2007. Then, if I can, I'll look for info about the other gigs you listed.

I don't think you need to be fluent in a language to use it in this case. God know, my French i non-existent, and I was trying to find some info...

Great! There are some videos from both Glastonbury and The Great Escape, so these two have to be included. Is Chasingpavements. xx on Twitter you? I could send you a link you could perhaps use.

Thanks.

I'm updating now the 2007 list above with one more gig, plus notes on people taking care of some gigs.
