Celine Dion covering Adele

Postby Georgina » Sun Jun 10, 2012 8:04 am

I have to say it was an unspoken dream of mine that Celine covers one of Adele's songs. And seems that she did it... Yesterday she came back to Las Vegas and one of the songs she sung was Rolling in the Deep:

Boy oh boy, this is one cover I would like to have... I hope someone recorded full version and with picture and will post it on YT.

Wow, not bad at all, I was never a Celine Dion fan but I was quite impressed with this cover, I didn't care for the Dierks Bentley version of "Set Fire to the Rain" but I give him credit for trying since it's probably impossible to cover Adele as good as the original.

I am not a Celine Dion fan not at all but she has an amazing voice and can sing pretty much anything.
Yeah the cover was one of the best i heard of RITD but still its lacking in terms of emotion to me has no soul .Yeah its almost perfect techically but for me thats not what RITD is about

I like Celine, there was a period (quite some years ago) when I used to listen to her constantly. But what you are saying reminds me a discussion I had with somebody on YT. Adele is sometimes called a "soul" singer, although some object it on the grounds that soul is a music reflecting black American's experience, and Adele does not fit this definition. However her vocal has this "soulish" tense, and intense, quality to it. I don't think anybody would ever try to call Celine Dion a "soul" singer. This kind of feeling is not there - for me. Still, for me there are 2 covers of Adele I heard that stuck in my mind as covers I liked, and this fragment is one of them.

When i said soul i ment the actual meaning of the word not the type of music :)

Isn't that the type of music got it's name for a reason? That the two are somehow related?

This cover is amazing, I always did like Celine.
Btw, color has nothing to do with having soul...it's just something that comes from within when you sing... and with Adele she has that and she does fit the definition. Yeah it originated from black americans, but if you watched VH1 Divas Soul they did an entire thing on that. They told about soul out of London (and you know they mentioned Adele), Chicago, etc.
So...Little to say, but so much time.
Despite my empty mouth, the words are in my mind...
